I LOVE that book! It sort of lifts my spirits everytime I read it. But yeah, if you're thinking about getting the book, I say, get it. I really don't want to say too much, just in case I give anything away...

This is an enormously popular book which many people say changed their lives and so on. It was lent to me, I hate to spoil the parties - but I found it insipid and intensely irritating - The spiritual message is "correct" in a universal sort of way the book just didn't feel complete. It was too easy, but not in a deceptively simple Zen Buddhist sort of way, just easy.
Coelho has become a sort of new age guru. I saw him in a documentary recently and he seemed to me to be an ex-hippy who'd hit on a neat "spirituality" formula that worked and has kept at it ever since then.
That's just me though.
If you like any of these writers on spiritual questions: Thomas Merton, Anthony de Mello, Henri Nouwen and to a certain extent Alan Watts and Krishnamurti, all of whom I like alot and consider to be the real thing, chances are you won't get much satisfaction from Coelho.
But who knows, he may work for you.
