I did this last 2 years so....

Since 2002 is coming to a close, maybe we can take an informal poll here to determine what the people of this board thought was the best book of 2002.

I would like to keep this simple so the minimal critera is as follows: (1) you actually read the book and (2) It was published in 2002. This can be either the first Hardcover edition or the first paperback edition (for the paperback to qualify, it has to be the First paperback edition i.e. while American Gods was first published Hardcover in 2001, the paperback was published in 2002 so it could be counted).

Pick three books that you enjoyed the most: Points will be doled out as follows--5 points for the best book, 3 points for 2nd best book and 1 point for 3rd best book such that:

1) Book A by John 5 points
2) Book B by Rob 3 points
3) Book C by Mike 1 point

Let's shoot around some ground rules for a few days (let's try to keep this as simple as possible, if what I laid out above is too much, let me know) and then maybe we can start the poll next week and run it until the second week of January.

I can tally the votes and post the top 3 books as chosen by the members of this BB after the cut off date.

I guess we can run this through January, giving time for Holiday gifts, and I'll add up the votes and post the results at the beginning of February.

One good rule is to keep it just for your top 3 books. Don't start a discussion explaining why you disagree with a persons choice... there are other topics for that... just post your top 3 and leave it at that... no need to justify yourself in this topic. It will also make it easier for Fitzflagg to tally the votes... I am sure he does not wish to troll through pages and pages of other stuff.

Make sure you post in order of Preference... and if you post 5 favourite... only the top three should be taken into account. I know this is common sense... but trust me... it does happen.

Also.. keep within the Genre... no Daniel Steele

Will you be running one in the SF section Fitzflagg? Or is SF okay here?

By FitzFlagg
guess we can keep Science Fiction under this one too.

I WILL be deleting any large explanations as to why people chose their top 3 boos. I will also delete any titles beyond three, though you can list a TIE for one of the three places, however, the points get divided between the books. i.e. if you place American Gods and The Scar as tied for 3rd place, each book will only get 1/2 point

where can i find out which books were published this year (am reading a lot of very old/last few years stuff as well)?

oh- and stuff may come out at different times according to country

By Cadfael
Amazon.com will tell you the publication date.

Also.. take a look in the actuall book... the pub date is normallt the first date given... or the copyright date.

Also... the criteria is a book you have read... wether or not it is published in your country... if you bought it from overseas... and you have read it... it counts.

Hey guys - save your lists for a few days yet please!! Let's give people a chance to through a few rules around etc, first!

Okay... cast your votes... [/Cadfael Edits]

Is the Golden Fool part of a series or stand alone? I'm a little out of touch with the fantasy market but Hobb and George R.R. Martin are my favorite authors. So Golden Fool is good?

Mod Note: Pluvious... this is not a topic for asking about books or opinions thereoff, but for voting for your top 3... this was made clear in the very first post. There are other topics for this... this topic is being kept firmly on track.
