I read this book years ago - it was about this guy who had the 3 stars of Orion's belt on his forehead. He has no clue as to what the stars mean. I think he starts out as some sort of criminal... The book is the first of a 3 book series and when I read the first one I had no luck finding the rest of the series. I can't remeber the title at all (though 'tyrant' might be in it??)

Could the author be Ben Bova, he did write a series of novels in which the main charachter was called Orion... I think he was a kind of odd job man for the gods.

It's possible you're talking about 'Riddle of Stars' by Patricia McKillip. I think the first book might be called 'Heir of Sea and Fire' though as I think about it that would
make more sense as the 2nd.. Moving on, although the stars are never refered to as being like Orion's belt as such, there are three of them. ;-) This is a fantasy series. And painfully beautiful.
