Not to cause trouble... but why does everyone use made up names in these forums. This is supposed to be communications, just like the real world. And yet, I have trouble imagining an introduction at a party starting with, "Hi, I am Spam-o-matic, Lord of the Troubled" or some such. What ever happened to Hi Richard, it's me John?
Why such secrecy??? What are we hiding??? Come on, how about, my name is Richard and I read fantasy! Yes, I even chat online about it! I am a real person, not a king, lord, overlord, underlord, or other such construct!
It's not like this is a porno board for god's sake! Real names are good, real names are good, real names are good. Say it with me and change those user names. Stand up and be who you are!

okay, now commence to thoroughly thrashing me for such an insane and risky idea...

Mystery is fun and John or whatever is a little boring, plus names can be shortened to make fun of people on the forum ...........

You really introduce yourself as Richardb? Tell me....how is that being pronounced these days? ;)

Oh, and.....btw.....hi! I'm Sammie :)

(And you could call me Samantha.....but there's only three men in the world who can do that without screaming, shortly afterwards :D)

Actually, Richard Brunke is the name, but you know, B is shorter and plenty useful for this forum!
You know, after about 10 years of Richardb as an exchange logon, it's hard to shake the b part...
I have thought of changing my name to something more fun, like:
"Grumpy the disapointed clown"
"Happy Rashbottom"
or even "His Mightyness- Tip, King of the Understated"
but none of those just seem to grab the essential me...

Please say you aren't asking for suggestions, having just looked at your profile it would be too hard to resist ..........

Its a fantasy board! Its fun to use a fantasy name, maybe on a porno board you could use GoldD**k or something but don't you think that a fantasy board deserves at least a minor stab at coming up with an imaginative name?

Never thought to ask: but hey, the skin is real thick by now, feel free to offer opinions.
I'd do Conan, but I am too thin
I'd try Elminster, but I have no magic
I'd try Matt Cauthin, but I have no sense of humor
I'd try Goldilocks, but my hair is a quarter inch long...

Well... hmmm... I suppose that it is a fantasy board, but I thought it was to talk about fantasy, not live in one.
Okay, that's just pushing a bit far on my part:rolleyes:
Truth be told, it doesn't bother me, I was just curious as to why folks use the names that they do.
Besides, you just gotta know that this is like throwing the sacred cow under the bus.

I already have 3 names in rl. I won't share the second and third with you, but hey, if it makes you feel better, my name is Joyce. Don't see the point really, in using my real name. What's in a name? I like my nickname/handle as well. It has nothing to do with hiding who I am. I am not my name.

Not your name? Well, er... perhaps your name is YOU? Well I don't know. I suppose I am my social security number if anything, and I admit, I am not using that for a user name.
