In all my recommendations, I forgot to mention Ben Bova. I just picked up Return to Mars today, sequel to Mars. His two books Moonrise and Moonwar are also very good.

They are set in the near future. There are space stations around Earth, a colony on the moon, and the first two human exploratory missions to Mars. There is some character crossover, too, so they all deal with the same future.

What I think I really like about these four books is with our current level of science and technology, these books seem very possible.

I have read both the Moon books by Bova, and the first Mars. I've also read some of his others and have yet to find one that really disappoints!

SusF - You'll probably like the Asteroois Wars series then which has just been published in the States. It uses a lot of the earlier characters - Dan Reynolds?. Though I usually enjoy his books as a fairly light read, I do feel he's treading water a little lately, though I understand he's trying to write a book for every planet/region of the solsar system!
