Just thought I'd sound the waters for opinions on the new Dune book. What does everyone think? A great new story? Or a pale comparison to the works of Frank Herbert? Should Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson write the 7th book in Frank Herbert's series, or only limit themselves to prequels?

Is that the Kevin J Anderson who writes Star Wars books? Or am I getting confused with someone else?

Yep - that's him. I read his Star Wars stuff, and I thik that this a better, more polished effort.

I feel that it is a pale comparison to Frank Herberts books, I think my intrest for Dune started to wander after I started reading the fourth book. I bought the movie though, have you guys seen it?

I've seen the movie-thought it was complete rubbish, but I have the book and have only read a little bit. My friends say the book is excellent.

I've read Kevin J. Anderson's Star Wars books, and they ain't that good. He has good plot but thats where it ends.

I finished the Atreides book last week. I thought it was pretty good. I liked the fact that it explained why some of the things/situations that took place in Dune had developed in the way they did. Of course, some of the natural suspense element was gone from the book because you knew that certain characters - Leto, Shaddam IV, etc- would ultimately be okay no matter what sort of trouble they were in simply because they were an integral part of DUNE.

"Dune" was great. I've to read any of the others. I started the second book and just couldn't get into it.

I too, hated the movie.

As for the son taking the reigns of his fathers story . . . it just doesn't sit well with me.

Thumbs down. Bad medicine keemosabe. Tanto no like.

I am an avid Dune fan, and have read all the books 2 or 3 times. However, I just could not get into the son's prelude. I just got stuck I guess. I did like the film though!!!! Sorry folks I think I may be the only one who did though!!!!

Yes Merry, I think you are. I read the book first. . . did you? I've rarely read the book and then seen the movie and walked away satisfied. Starship Troopers was awful. Sphere . . . yuck, don't get me stated.

I hated the Crow too.

I can't think of any others . . . but I know there are many.

Yes I read the books first! I think I probably liked it as I had a crush on the bloke who played Paul!!!!!

SAD I KNOW. I probably would not think that now!!!
