I'll start by saying, oops! I was at the book store last night, and in a rush, and I found a book that looked good, and said it was the first book of the Alliance of Light... I bought it. Got home and realized it was book 4 or 7, called Fugitive Prince...

I started it last night, but it has the feel of picking it up half way into the story...

Is this serries worth reading? Would it be okay to start with Fugitive, or should I go back to the store and pick up Curse of the Miswraith?

And, no spoilers please, any feedback on the story would be appreciated too!

Thanks
-Silas

To make any sense of the story you must begin with Curse of the Mistwraith.

The series runs as follows.

First Arc

Curse of the Mistwraith (sets the scene)

Second Arc

Ships of Merior
Warhost of Vastmark (takes place about 10 to 15 years later than the beginning.)

Though the two above were first printed in the US as one volume

Third Arc

Fugitive Prince
Grand Conspiracy
Peril's Gate
and the one being written at present Stormed Fortress, this hopefully will be out sometime this year.(all take place between 30 and 40 years later than the beginning)

Janny says herself, on her website, that there will be two more arcs. Each will consist of two books then that is it story done!

It isn't a light read by any means. The story is very complex and no one is what they seem to be. I have re-read most at some time, though the last one I read, Peril's Gate, was hard going in places I believe the series is worth the effort.

Don't expect outright heros and villians, don't expect happy endings. And don't think you can second guess what is going to happen next because you can't. I find Janny is one of the few writers I can read and not have a good idea where the plot is going after the half way stage.....

I agree with Holbrook, you need to start with the first book in order to follow the story. I have read up to Warhost of Vastmark and keep meaning to read the rest of the series one day.

Thanks!! I've scheduled to take a trip back to the store and exchange for the first book...

I've been looking for a new read, and from what I've seen of this one it looks good...
