Ok, I'm a huge fan of Orson Scott Card. Unfortunately I've just finished all his books. (note: I absolutely love the Ender's Game series, I've read it five times over.) So now I'm looking for another series to read and would like some guidance. It's time to switch to another author and I haven't the slightest idea in which direction to go. So give me your recommendations, please, your help is well appreciated.

Tad Williams's Otherland, it is about a group of people adventure in virtual reality, many of the virtual worls are based on other SF series... a kind of tribute...

1. City Of Golden Shadow
2. River Of Blue Fire
3. Mountain Of Black Glass
4. Sea Of Silver Light

The Coldfire trilogy by C.S. Friedman is really good. In fact, just about any book by C.S. Friedman is tops on my list for scifi. If you like classic scifi, you also might give Heinlein a try, or E.E. "Doc" Smith. And if you haven't read Dune yet, give it a try. You're in for a treat!

Well I can second the reccomendation for Otherland, but my favorite is:
Stephen Donaldson's "Gap series"
First book is "The real story"

Be warned though, it's extremely dark and violent, and the charcters aren't exactly easily likeable.

You could try Peter F Hamilton. The Greg Mandel Series are all sci-fi action novels, shortish and good reads. (Mindstar Rising is the first).

Alternatively, and by the same author, the 'Night's Dawn' trilogy is a huge space opera. They take some reading but the world vision and the threat are amazing.

You should try Dan Simmons, the Hyperion series. It`s a modern classic of science fiction.

Yes, I second the Dan Simmons recommendation.
Hyperion
Fall of Hyperion
Endymion
Rise of Endymion

Greg Bear's Eon is pretty good, though I haven't read the sequel, Infinity

If you are looking for a classic series try E.E. "Doc" Smith's Lensmen series. The Science Fiction Book club published 2 omnibuses of the books and they are available at amazon.com. This is THE series that created Space Opera, it heavily influenced Star Wars and the Lensmen are a precusor or inspiration to DC Comics Green Lantern Corps.

Have just started the first 'Otherland'. Brilliantly written, but it's freaking me out! I keep having to put it down. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gif

Before my reading assignments from you all get to deep I'll have to thank you all for all of your recomendations. Your suggestions will keep me well entertained on my long night shifts standing duty. Nothing can cure a Marines' or anyones' boredom than a good book. Really, thanks a lot guys. I'll be back for more.
