I am enjoying The Name of The Rose less, as I read more. Not sure if I will keep at it.
It has very little story and lots of filler.

Reading Baudolino at the moment, and its fairly good, nothing too grandiose and overpowering like Foucalts Pendulum, but enjoyable non the less. I have to say it does seem a bit too long, i've been at it a week, and im only 200 pages in, it's not gripping in the sense that his other books were, and it comes close to becoming an inane ramble at times ... still it is Eco, he'll surely pull something surreal out of the bag to keep me hooked.

This topic got me thinking about how I read, and I'm fairly sure I'm what some would term a lazy reader. I like to get my books, settle somewhere comfy, and just let the words glide through me.
It's not that I don't think while I read, oh no, my husband accuses me of thinking too much on a regular basis (bah), it's more like...I don't want to have to stop to think. So I usually choose books that I get lost in.
Eco writes in such a way that causes me to stop and think. So, I found him quite frustrating, yet compelling and interesting, all at once, to read. While reading the Rose I admit to certain parts that bored, yet others had me musing off into space, partly irritated that I'd had to stop.
Well, it's a better way to be jarred out of a book-world than painful prose, and editing mistakes.

I've been eyeballing Eco's stuff for awhile...
