Well, the SCIFI Channel has been on for a good many years, why isn't there a Fantasy Channel?

There have been a few shows over the years that could be considered 'fantasy' shows, but they have been on disparate channels, never combined on a single channel like SCIFI.

I think that the recent HUGE success of the LotR films certainly shows that there is an audience for the Fantasy genre, even if it is closely related to the Sci-fi genre.

Does anyone else here agree with me, see where I'm coming from? They could not only have shows, but interviews with fantasy authors, documentaries, on autors, history, and books, plus lots of other stuff. Wouldn't this be a really cool channel?

I personally don't think there's enough material out there - it would end up like channel 5 with repeats of Xena and Hercules.

There's more readership for fantasy books than there is for scifi. If there was a fantasy channel more films and series would get produced with fantasy storylines.
Probably could have alot more fantasy on scifi network anyway - it's become the catch-all for horror and anything slightly wierd.

I think it would be better for the Sci Fi channel to extend their reach and become SF/F Channel, that way there is plenty of material to go around. Just think of the Sci Fi/Horror and Fantasy fest they could broadcast!!!

With the increased subscriptions, they wouldn't have to axe incredible shows like FarScape.

Or maybe they could just do something like the History Channel, with their new channel History Explorer, an extension, but also a new channel, still managed by the original. That way they could back up the channel with their experience and reputation. Hmmm.....

Trouble with making it sci fi AND fantasy is that you would lose some viewers as well - you know, the scifi clique that think fantasy sux. My Mum is the perfect example - she never buys sci fi books since they got muddled in with the fantasy - she just doesn't have the patience for filtering through everything to find what she likes. At the moment, she just turns on the scifi channel and almost invariably likes what she sees. I doubt she'd even look at it if 50% of the stuff was fantasy.

Is there really that much of a clique? I love both. Maybe a poll is in order to see if we generally like both or one or the other (not books though I just mean TV/Movies)
