Hi

Del Rey have this campaign where they give away three free eBooks. I was wondering if anyone knew if they were worth the time to read?

- The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks
- First to Fight: Book One of Starfist byDavid Sherman and Dan Cragg
- Worldwar: In the Balance by Harry Turtledove

I'm posting this in the SF forum since the last two seem to be SF books. Terry Brooks I know, but the authors of the two last books I know nothing about. Are they any good?

The Harry Turtledove, WorldWar, mentioned is pretty good...this is the first of 4 books in the WorldWar series...if you like alternate history then you will like these..
aliens invade earth in the middle of WorldWar ii..

I've never read any alternative history before...aliens in WWII? Sounds pretty strange. But since it's free and you think it was good I might give it a chance.

Any other thoughts?

Hey nicba,

I've read the first book of WorldWar and I have to disagree with rloomis. I don't know, I guess that there were some aspects of the story that jarred my reading while others that I found boring (which is somewhat symbolical of Turtledove's semi-historical novels). Dunno, mebbe it's because the very idea didn't interest me that much.

(On the other hand, Turtledove's World in Darkness series-- though still has the same problems mentioned above-- caught my interest so I'm making an effort.)

Don't wanna mention details coz too lazy to make spoiler alerts. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif
