Greatly disappointed.

There was next to no attempt to convey the messages which were really important to Herbert, no conveyance that Leto was more interested in saving humanity than saving the desert, and worst of all the donning of the sandtrout was made to look like glamorous wish-fulfillment. The actors moaned a great deal about how sorry they were about the whole thing, but when a hideous full body sheathe which forever severs you from the rest of humanity becomes 3 blisters on your right hand that barely show as you run topless (to show off your nice physique of course) across the desert with your wind blowing in the hair, well that's just crap. This kind of thing is also blatantly apparent in the way that these people, who are supposed to be the true fremen, go around with stillsuits that don't even cover your head, and don't bother using the crucial mouthpiece...

Also some of the accents they decided to use were pretty bogus. They should have gotten some middle-easterners IMO.

Anyways, grumbling aside, not too bad. Which totally sucks, because it would have been GREAT (and should have been) if they'd have treated a few things differently.

Haven't rented it yet. I saw the first one, and while it was better than the Lynch film, I still found so many flaws... Mainly that the Atreides actors (Leto and Paul) looked NOTHING like they should have.... HELLO, what happened to the dark hair, dark eyes, olive skin, and eagle nose? They're supposed to look Greek.

Also, what do you mean Saintjon about the three blisters on his hand...? That's all he gets instead of the stillsuit worm body?!?!?

I don't mean to disagree with my fellow Canadian stjon but I do disagree with some of his observations of Children of Dune. I know very well that it was nowhere as good as reading the books and had its own flaws but as a seperate entity from the books i found the movie very entertaining.
I only had two problems with it.

1. The fact that they left out alot of the precognitive abilities especially them not knowing in advance that they were being hunted by the sabrecats and the plan to fake Leto's death and Ghanima convincing herself that he was dead. I thought that was brilliant and it was a shame they left that out.
2. Leto's did seem more interested in saving the desert than the Fremen and their way of life but technically they are interconnected.

Hey stjon, i don't think the sandtrout part wasn't that much of the glorious wish fulfillment. Yes it wasn't has bad as it was supposed to be but the fact that in the video it spread so fast that in just mere weeks it would have totally covered his body. By the end of the film it was more than just three blisters, it was one arm and his shoulders. They made it a little more glamorous for the visual aspect but anyone who looked at it carefully enough would realizae just why it would be such a burden.

I agree about the lack of precog.

I think it would've been better had they shown him covered head to toe though all the same.

Also, there's so much you'd miss if you hadn't read the books. They never mentioned once that he would live for 4 thousand years and eventually become a sandworm, or that his plan to ensure freedom of choice and nothing pre-ordained would be to impose 4 thousand years of the most repressive tyranny imaginable.

But they don't mention much of that in Children of Dune either, they leave most of that until God Emperor of Dune.

When they make a movie based on that, that is the time I would expect them to bring it up.
