JohnH started a topic on the Fantasy Board about what people are reading every month and I thought it was a real nice idea. So, since I haven't seen the equivalent here, and I don't read a lot of fantasy and thanks to JohnH for the idea, I've decided to start up a similar thread here. What have you read or are reading this month? What do you think about it?

Amusingly, what I am currently reading is a fantasy novel: Little, Big by John Crowley. It is truly one of the most poetic books I have ever read. There are passages that simply take my breath away. I must admit that some of it has me baffled and drags a bit, but for the most part, it is one of the most stunning works of fiction I have ever read.

I am also reading Hammerfall by Cherryh. Unfortunately, I am having a hard time making it a priority to get through this book. I want to finish it, but it almost seems like a chore to pick it up. I do like parts of it, and the premise is kind of cool, but much of it drags on and on with very little to grab one's attention. Unlike Little, Big, which has extremely engaging characters, Hammerfall lacks anyone that you can care about. The hero is ok, but rather typical and one-dimensional.

I have a number of books on my list to read, but I think I might try American Gods by Gaimon next since I have heard great things about it. I also have Mirage by Mark W. Tiedemann, a Robot Mystery based on Asimov's robot series. Or, maybe I will read Revelation Space by Reynolds. Of course, I will pick up Card's Ender's Game this week for the reading club. Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind and read something completely different at any time. :>}

You could always check the reading group who reads a new book ever monht. Right now we are reading Ender's game (Which I completed in about 2 days and I am now reading the sequel, Speaker For The Dead)

I'm finishing up Feersum Endjinn by Iain Banks. What makes this book even more of a pleasure to read is that I picked it up used for $4 in trade paperback. His books are hard to find in the US.
I have no idea what I'm reading next.

Little Big by Crowley is fabulous, one of the top fantasy novels of all time as well as a great American novel. One of the few books whose ending actually moved me to tears.

Please see my comment in the Fantasy thread, which is actually more of an SF thing this month.

Altered Carbon arrived today, as recommended by NOM. Looks good.

Alai, I have every intention of reading Ender's Game. I'll probably start it next week. Are you going to read the whole series?

ezchaos: Banks seems to be big on these boards. I will definately have to try and get ahold of some of his books. But, you are right, they are a bit more difficult to find in the U.S.

Hobbit...Let me know how Let me know how Fallen Dragon is. I don't think it is available in the U.S. yet. For that matter, neither is Altered Carbon.

Fallen Dragon so far is good. (I'm about 100 pages in!)If you like Hamilton's Night's Dawn series, this is very similar - some of the ideas are not new, but it's written with some style and is a good page turner so far.

Excellent Hobbit. I will pick up a copy when it is released here. I did like Night's Dawn a lot and I enjoy a good page turner.
