I'm a mere 90 pages into this novel, and was finding it to be a bit slow. I was wondering if it gets any better, or whether I should drop it? Thanks.

The book definitely picks up.

Yes, I now see that it certainly does pick up. If I weren't so hungry at this time, I'd still be reading. I could see myself staying up way past midnight tonight with The Stand

Personally I found the book riveting right from the very first page. :)

I also enjoyed the entire book through. The first part is slower because it develops the characters and makes what happens to them after more meaningful to the reader.

Personally I found the book riveting right from the very first page.

That little prologue and first chapter *did* get me hooked, but as Trent said, the development within the first 90 pages was a little monotonous.

I think I liked the development more than the "action."

I started getting excited as soon as that car rolled up to the gas pump. Heck, the build-up could have gone on forever.

Is anyone else like that? Same with movies, the tension for me is all in the build-up, and too often what the writers do after they've set the scene is disappointing. Or not as interesting as what came before.

Been a long time since I read it, but I enjoyed pretty much all of it. Esp the beginning when the ..."problem" first begins. Avoiding spoiler even though it's not really a spoiler if you buy the book lol.

I loved that book! I read the whole uncut edition- over 1000 pages, but worth it. Stick with it. :)
