Hi all-
Trying to remember the name of a fantasy novel that I read the first few chapters of about a year or so ago. Not sure if I remember enough specifics to jog someone's memory, but here goes.
A young boy is delivered to a castle (by his father?) to take up the position as whipping-boy for a young prince (i.e. he takes the beatings etc). The prince is, of course, sullen, spoiled, likes playing with toy soldiers and is studying to become a General, someday. The young boy is noticed by the castle's mage/seer/sage and is tapped by him to start studying magic, which the young prince thinks is stupid.
The only other thing I can remember going on in these intro pages is that the King was having some sort of council meeting with visiting dwarves and elves about an upcoming war...as if that distinguishes it any further :)
Thanks for any help!
