A Salmon of Doubt

This is a posthumous publication of various writings of Douglas Adams including the third book in the Dirk Gently series. When I went to the library yesterday and saw this I was quite surprised. I had no idea this was even coming out!

It really is an amusing read. The first 2/3 of the book are interviews, speeches, letters and essays by Adams. The last part is the Dirk Gently book which is only 80 pages long. The essays are a really terrific look at Adams as a person and at the kind of life he led. I haven't made it to the Dirk Gently part yet, so I'll save my comments about that until later.

It's been a rather bi-polar reading experience. I've been laughing or
crying, though ususally both. Laughing because Adams was a damn funny man, crying because he was a damn funny man and he's gone.

For any fantasy or sf fan this is a must read!!

Salmon of a Doubt?

That title is kinda fishy if you ask me.
Sorry, I have to say things like that for the halibut. So don't get crabby.

Your both Floundering around looking for a good spin on the Salmon thing, the whole Grouper 'ya. You'll all Croaker to the Tuna Northern Pike, then the place'll really Smelt like White Crappie. Now leave poor Cygnus Abalone while he cries his Goeducks dry with the good Sir Adams.

actually i would have said dirk gently was more fantasy, but nevermind, it's actually so damn funny i was shocked, i ahvent got to the story yet but the extracts, letter, introductions ect are sheer brilliance, adams has to be one of the funniest writers ever and i'm gonna look up some of the stuff he recommends, it's such a shame that we have been robbed of his talent so early http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gif
