Except he does have a change of character and you missed it :D I have to say I'm very much in the 'enthralled by Nights Dawn' camp and think his newest work Pandora Star is even better (not much of a recommendation for you I know :D ) Although Hamilton eventually poses questions that even he can't answer and the ending is a very limp deus-ex-machina there are so many interesting questions posed in the book that I think it worthwhile reading. It's certainly long and takes a while to get into - probably the whole of the first book and more - but the overall story I felt was compelling enough reason to read it and that that was the point, not overloading on characterisation but conveying this star-spanning event even if it is through multiple viewpoints. Like I said I'm an affirmed Peter Hamilton fan so go figure :D

I found the nights dawn series to be highly entertaining. Not mind blowingly new or deep. Its a big fun Space Opera that slaked my thirst for battles and heroic daring do.
I was immersed and entertained, the experience akin to watching the best pop corn flick in the world. You know its not Citizen Kane, but you having a damn good time watching it. :)

The first page had such heavy diction I stopped perusing in the store then and there. Creating such phrases and terminology speaks well of the book, but a heavy book doesn't make for easy reading. If you don't concentrate you'll get lost.
Okay, I got drowned with all the hundred nams in Game of Thrones. Yet at some stage during the trilogy I found I had subconciously memorised everyone.
