Science Fiction Becomes Science Fact!

As long as I can remember, I have felt the lure of Science Fiction. A lot of things that were dreams then, are reality now. I wish this board every success. This is the place for the dreamers, that will insure tomorrows reality. Comments?... http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

Amongst the SF cognoscenti, the major problem with writing for the genre is attempting to stay a couple of steps ahead of science. Just about the time your labor of love hits the shelves, someone has done it.

There are of course certain things, such as FTL drives, aliens, alternate universes and so on that are safe from intrusion by science fact (at least for now), but they've been so overdone that it's a major task to find a new twist.

You know, when I was younger I remember speculation that we'd all be driveing hover cars by now. Sort of like in Back to the Future. I wonder what happened to that one?

Zeddicus I assume they will "take off" whenever the "cold fusion in a cooler" that was on the cover of all the newsmagazines a few years back is perfected.
Oops seems they have a glitch, oh well its just a matter of time.

Remember we are all witches and warlocks, after all we do use magic wands ( what else do you call a remote control ?

I call it the device that keeps me from getting off my butt to go change the TV channel.

Concerning remote controlls. I've kind of noticed something about myself here. If I want to change the channel, but I can't find the remote, I'll get up and go on a long search for the remote instead of just going over to the TV and changing the channel manually.

I think it demonstrates my inclination to exercise. The easy thing would be to just go flip the darn channel, but I choose the long walk around the house checking under the cushions, behind the couch, in the freezer, in the car and etc.

I hate losing remotes... http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif There are some functions of the darn machines, you can't even access w/o one anymore. 'Specially on VCR's.

I sure hope there are still dreamers around... I used to think what 2000 would be like by the time I got there... (besides being old I mean), I had a lot more in mind than has really happened. In retrospect, it seems like we haven't advanced all that much.

In a couple of select areas, but that's it.

some authors connect their stories from sci fi to science thing...
that's why some readers who dont know that some of it are just imagination thought that it was true.
