I'll have to add a No. 4. The Championship Manager series. I've wasted so many hours on those games.

Of course! Those damned football manager games!
I spent weeks bringing lowly conference sides up the ranks and eventually into Europe.
I loved SWOS (sensible World of Soccer) on the Commodore Amiga. Especially when you had finally created an invincible squad of players and all the big clubs from around the world like Ac Milan or Real Madrid would offer you the manager's position at their club.

1. Doom series
2.Red Alert (RA 1 that is; red alert 2 wasn't so good)
3. Tie between Unreal (the original, as above), Sensible Soccer and Champ Manager.
That is for PC games.
Sensi was cool, man. The weird 2D visuals, the music and, my favourite part, picking up players for about 100k and seeing them rocket to £8million in a couple of seasons. And it was amazing how you could trawl through, for example, the Ecuador league for bargain buys.
The only console I have owned is the NES original. And whatever people say, that is still cool. Top game - Super Mario Brothers. Simply quality.
