Fitz on Film? Imagine!

I just had a thought.

I've been drawing a picture of FitzChivalry Farseer over the last couple days, and although it's not perfect, it actually pleasantly surprised me. I'm quite happy with how it turned out, and it's helped me visualize Fitz a bit more, even though I'm already on Fool's Errand. I'll try and post the pic soon if I can get it scanned. By the way, how do you post a pic that's only on your computer, and not on the Net?

Anyway, this is my main point. If Hobb's books were made into movies, who should play the characters? I'm mainly saying this because I just had a flash/revelation on someone who would make a decent Fitz. Now this would be Fitz at about 35 years old, in the Tawny Man series. My revelation....

DANIEL DAY-LEWIS!

He could do it. He somewhat matches Fitz's description, and he's a great actor. Have you seen Gangs of New York? What do you folks think?

And please don't move this to the TV&FILM forum, because it's more about Hobb than about film.

Patrick Steward for Chade...though he'd need a wig

I can see it...

Joaquin Phoenix for Regal? Not exactly who I picture, but I just thought of him in Gladiator....
Otherwise, Regal could be Tim Roth (ala Rob Roy).

The Fool...hmmm, that's a hard one. What gender of actor should play him? It would maybe have to be a no-name, albino actor/actress...

Russel Crowe as Burrich? Nah, maybe not... Just thinking out loud here

Lassie could play Nosy

And Gwyneth Paltrow (or Anna Nicole Smith!) as Kettricken! Yay! err...

Christopher Walken/ James Woods as Galen?

And that shoplifter Winona Ryder as Molly?

Just thinking out loud here...

I actually like a few of those choices, Loras!

Ryder as Molly... I like it. Of course, I always had a huge crush on her whilst growing up.

Paltrow, while not my favorite actress, could actually be a decent Kettricken. Hmm.... HEY, what about Cate Blanchett! I think she's even better than Paltrow.

But Crowe as Burrich! LOL, no offense! :) He's just way too young. But I can see where you're going...

Chade = Anthony Hopkins? Ian McKellen? Christopher Lee?

The Fool is still the hardest one for me to come up with. I think it needs to be a no-name, new face.

It's odd, there was a discussion like this on Hobb's own forum (which has ceased to exist). And Russell Crowe was suggested for both Verity and Burrich. I don't normally think of the two as alike, but I suppose there is enough similarity to make Crowe a valid suggestion for either of them.

I think he would be well suited to the role(s) in The Farseer, but obviously not in Tawny Man as it is set so many years after. Similarly, Ryder might play Molly in the late stages of Farseer, but is the wrong age for the teenage or 40s Molly.

Jaoqin Phoenix was also suggested for Regal on the Hobb boards, but I'm not entrely convinced. He certainly has that vain sneering look, but somehow he doesn't look lean and mean enough.

I won't come into the debate of who would be best to play Fitz etc....since everyone knows I'm hopeless with actors, actresses and such. But I can tell you how to get a pic up here.

You have to have a url for the picture. If you don't have your own website, you can email the pic to myself or one of the admins who do, and can host the pic on their own website for you. We'll give you the url and then you just enclose it in image tags ..... [img] [/ img]

I've only recently started reading Hobb's books so I don't really have anything to add to the discussion, but if you need someone to host the pic for you, I'd do it. Just message isajeep if you need me.
