I hope a similar topic wasn't posted sometime in the past, but since almost a 100 new members joined in the last 2 months, I'll take my chance...
It's clear ( I hope), that everybody here loves fantasy and sf the most.
what i'd like to know is who are those NON fantasy and sf authors you will read without even looking at the blurb on the back cover, authors which by now, you are a diehard fans of theirs. here are a few of my favourites:

Stephen king:the best, read 16 of his books, non of them was even mediocore.

Dean Koontz: an AWESOME writer, one of the best suspence authors in the world, every book of his is a joyride of thrills, if you don't know him, well...do something!

Clive Cussler:there is no better advanture yarns writer than cussler. it's a fabulous combination of indiana jones and james bond, with his hero, DEREK PIT, Cussler weaves some of the most hair raising and exciting advanture tales ever written.
I highly recommend you try him.

I'm being a good boy and posting this topic in the appropriate board, I hope somebody checks around here from time to time...

BTW, ff, is there any chance for a horror board???

lior:

I don't know about the Horror board. A good idea, but I don't own and/or run the site, I just help out. ultimately, it's not up to me.

I agree about SK, I think he is the best living American writer.

Koontz, after a while all his stuff seems the same to me.

I have become very facinated with the great George Orwell. Not only have I been reading his novels but i've also been searching the internet for his essays on political issues.

A Horror board sounds like a great idea lior. I'll add it right away and then I guess we'll see how it goes http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I have recently read Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy. I was told not to read it, but it was excellent, very bleak.

Lior... I agree Clive Cussler is the master of the thriller/adventure genre, his best book IMHO was Night Probe, what a brilliant plot, okay it is an old one, but my favorite by him. BTW, it is Dirk Pitt, not Derek, sorry to point that out... normally I would not, but other readers may need to know the right name to find the books.

Other books I read and enjoy are:

The Chronicles of Brother Cadfael by Ellis Peters.
The Mysteries of Inspector Morse by Colin Dexter (Damn him!!!... he killed Morse))
Everything he has writen by Stephen King http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I also read a lot of history and alternative history, especially anything to do do with Egypt.

Dennizm, thanks for for the spell correction, my mistake! (well, I could argue that I read most of his books in hebrew...)
It's great to meet someone else in the board who likes Cussler.
My favourite cussler is Sahara. an excellent, exciting without belief book.
did you read it?

Yes I have read it, the Americans on this forum may find it intresting... ya know... the passenger on the desert bound ship. I can't think of any Dirk Pitt book that I have disliked, I have not yet read Dragon.

I have not read any of the Numa Files yet though, but I will get round to these eventually

Tom Clancy always has me intrigued by his techno-stories. I also have read everything that John Grisham has written.

I read a lot of classics. I'm trying to finish Hamlet right now, and intend to read War and Peace, and Crime and Punishment soon.

Thomas Hardy's Tess of the Durbervilles has to rack as one of my all-time favourite novels, along with Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities and Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo.
