my recomendation, suprisingly enough, is Midnight Tides by Steven Erikson. My god this man can write! This is a bit of a breakaway from the series so far, introducing many new characters, and in fact, only one from the entire first four books. This is quite a wierd idea, and one i havnt seen before in a series on such a scale... hopefully it wont spoil the series:D

I think I've heard that book mentioned. Is it the 5th book of the Malazan Book of the Fallen?

Nope, it's an interim novella set in the same world.

Is it being released by itself, or in something along the lines of "Legends"?

@Evil Agent
indeed, it is the fifth book of the Malazan Book of the Fallen, and it is a full length novel:D

@Eventine
nah, this isnt one of the novellas. He his however writing a few, based on the characters of Bauchelain and Korbal Braoch, vrom Memeories of Ice. The first one, in fact the only one out yet, is called Blood Follows but is pretty much sold out. They are seriously considering a paper-back re-print, however:D The next novella out is called The Healthy Dead and is again about Bauchelain and Braoch. Easy to get confused though;)

On a side note, he is also publishing a sci-fi novella, though i'm not sure when this is released, and we have very few details about it...

The SF Novel is called "The Devil Delivered" and is about a month away from being finished, then it's probably a few months before it's released.

I thought this was the 2003 releases read thread?:confused:

My bad.

Erikson certainly churns them out doesn't he?

I figured it had to be the novella because there was no way he'd be ready to release another book so soon.
He's pretty consistent at one a year (plus novellas). I wish a few other authors out there *cougcoughmartincoughcough* could be so consistent.

I'm eagerly awaiting Blood Follows in a more available and affordable format.

Who's the character making an appearance from the first four books?

Trull Sengar, the Edur from House of Chains...

I haven't read House of Chains yet - I'm waiting for it come out in MMPB (it's frustrating seeing the trade paperback at the bookshop every time I head down there). I know it sounds dumb, but I like all of my books in a series to have the same format (I'm still angry with myself for ending up with the Crown of Stars series as 1 HB, 1 MMPB and 3 TPBs)

I think HoC is coming out in MMPB on September 1st
