With a week or so I will have finished the new James Barclay book and then I will need to start a search for a new book.
This may not seem like a great deal, but ever since I started reading I have been very picky over what I read. As rule I only ever really buy books by Gemmel and Eddings. Every so often I will try and new author this works sometimes as I found James Barclay and sometimes it kinda works - I liked Tad Williams first series the Dragon Bone chair one but then really did not like any of this others and the same with J.V. Jones liked one of hers but not anyothers I have tried.
So any suggestion out there? I do not like Terry Brooks, don't know why but can never get into his books and I don't like the Discworld novels or Robert Jorden.
So I am kinda stuck as they are the major fantasy writers and I don't know much else....

George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" first and foremost. This is simply one of the best fantasy series around (although only 3 of the 6 volumes are done, and the 4th is on the way)... VERY GOOD!
Then, maybe Robin Hobb or Robert Jordan (but be aware what you're getting into with Jordan!).

If you like Eddings and Gemmel..
Raymond Feist: Shadow of a Dark Queen. (Book One of the Serpentwar Saga) - A step or two above E/G but fun light reading still.
Or - to stray from the beaten path..
Troy Denning: The Verdant Passage. (Book One of the Prism Pentad - Dark Sun world.) Very light reading, in a Dragonlance/FR sort of way.
Fred Saberhagen: The First Book of Swords (Book One of the Books of Swords (OOP?)) The same light style, but a little older school so the story feels different.
David Farland: The Runelords (Book One of the Runelords)
Holly Lisle: Diplomacy of Wolves (Book One of the Secret Texts) Just starting to read her stuff myself. Light, but well done.
Michael Stackpole: The Dark Glory War (Prequil to unfinished Dragoncrown War Cycle) - I think very similar style to Eddings/Gemmel, most would probably disagree however.
Further from the path..
Orson Scott Card: Ender's Game (Sci-Fi, but everybody should read this book - amazing!)
Robert N. Charrette: Never Deal with a Dragon (Secrets of Power Volume 1 - Shadowrun world) - Future sci-fi/fantasy, very light read but entertaining.
Some of these don't exactly fit the Gemmel/Eddings style, but all were good reads back in the day. At the very least, they are worth checking out from the library :P. Hmm, can't think of anything else atm..I would start with the Feist series though.

Hey Wulfa, we've got PLENTY of recommendations for you to check out, browse our massive The Recommendation Thread (http://www.sffworld.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3179)
Since we are trying to keep the recommendation threads to a minimum, and pretty centralized at the thread I linked above, I'm closing this thread.
