The 7 Rules

I don't know about you guys but I find the Wizards rules absolutely ingenious in their simplicity.

The further I read in the series (up to PoC), the more concious I became of such things which the rules involve in my real life, and so far the rules have served me incredibly well. (i.e. I've sorted out and tossed away the "rotten fruits" among my so called friends and avoided and/or solved many plights.

I know I'm truely leaving myself open to persecution for "being an idiot", by admitting these things, but I really don't think that I ever was or am one.

I find though the rules may be simple, they mask great complexities that spring from the applications, and therefore are quite feasable and usefull in the real world.

What do you think? What's your favourite rule, and are they any good? What kind of experiances have you had with the rules???

I voted for the Mind what people do, not only what they say, for deeds will betray a lie. When i can I'll also vote for People are stupid because with Jean Chretien, first he said he would get rid of gst, he didn't. he also does lots of other stupid things (except for staying out of the war on Iraq), but people keep voting him back into power. Jean Chretien pisses me off:mad:

hope this comes out coherently

I've always liked rule #1, but there's more to it than just "people are stupid." It's people are stupid, you can convince them of anything so long as they either want it to be true or are afraid that it is true.

I can't say that this rule has ever helped me convince anyone of anything important, but it has made me think more carefully about things that others may be trying to convince me to believe.

Lol, yes, I voted for the Wizards first rule as well, because for me it has been the most applicable. I guess there is a reason it is #1 after all!!!

ACtually all the first rule rally says is that if you want ot lie to some one, then if they in fact don't know th etruth, you can abuse the trust they have in you.

I don't like the rules as they seem airy fairy and very negative. Life is the future? Nay, hope is the future, life is the present, knowledge is the past.

Well it doesn't tell you to abuse peoples trust, it merely states that people will beleive something if they want it to be true or fear it to be true. This can serve as a warning for yourself to be careful what you beleive. Or, if for some reason you need to lie to somebody, which likely would be someone evil intending to hurt you, then it's great to know.

I can't pretend to know what airy fairy means, but I can't see how rules to aid you in the path of a hard life can be negative. Maybe the issues they help you face are negative, but surely not the rules themselves!

And it doesn't say life is future, it says life is in the future which makes perfect sense. Nobody can know whether or not we will have hope in the future because depends on whether or not we will have life. You see? :)

Wow, I'm responding a month after your question!! :)

Because I agree with it. 99% of people are just plain stupid.

Heh, 'tis true (partially). I think it would be better put were we to say most people choose the path of stupidity. I can't even count how many very intelligent people I know who do some very dub things.
