Agents recommending editing

I just got a response today from an agent and it was different from all the form letters I had been getting as of late. I was glad for a different response because at least it\'s something different.

Anyhow, just as the subject says, the agent recommended that I get my manuscript edited professionally. He even recommended someone and said that I don\'t have to get it from them I could get it from someone else. Now I\'m sure that my manuscript needs editing because damn near all manuscripts do, but should I get it edited? This is a relatively new agency and as of now, all his clients have been new. I\'m not even sure if he read my excerpts because he didn\'t say anything about it. All he said was that it needed editing.

I appreciate any advice or opinions that y\'all have on this.

Without knowing who the editors is it is hard to answer the question. However, you can always see if the person is listed on the Writer's Beware (http://www.sfwa.org/Beware/) site. If not, you can e-mail them and if they know any information they will let you know.

Answering this type of question is exactly what they are for.

You other option is to improve your own editing skills.
