Where to start?

I am tired of rereading Jordan, Goodkind, Stasheff, Asprin and Salvatore. I was thinking of starting in with GRR Martin but have no clue where to begin. Any advice?

Martin is definately worth reading, his first book is A Game of Thrones. Steven Erikson, Robin Hobb and China Mieville are all highly recommended.

I've read the Farseer Trilogy from Hobb.

Definetly read G RR Martin, books that are out in order:

A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords

Short Story: The Hedge Knight in Legends I (don't know which paperback) The Sworn Sword coming in Legends II (out September 1st, UK)

Then I'd recommend A Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. Books in order:

Gardens of the Moon
Deadhouse Gates
Memories of Ice
House of Chains
Midnight Tides (coming late 2003)

I'd also recommend R. Scott Bakker: The Darkness that Comes Before (1st book in the Prince of Nothing, or vice versa...not sure)

Anyway, that's a start and are, imo, the best that's out there in terms of fantasy (in order given)

Martin's ASOIAF is definitely the place you should start.

Awesome link to a previous thread. I'm a little new to forums, too, so I don't really know how to effectively search a forum for info. I feel like I'm searching Micro$oft KB...
