I know there's a few Counting Crows-appreciation type people hidden here abouts. (Come out, whereever you are....:D)

Was just wondering if anyone else has heard the live VH1 storytellers/MTV discs? I got them yesterday and I'm very impressed. The VH1 disc is rearrangements of the ten best tracks (imo) on their first two albums - mainly in acoustic/unplugged styles. V chilled for the most part - and shows off the fact that these guys have more than a little talent. :)

Worth checking out even if u already have the 1st 2 albums imo.

I really liked August and Eveyrthing After and Recovering the Satellites had some pretty good songs. Will be sure to check it out.

And Sammie: another penguin is the last thing we need.

But it's so cute!

If you like those 2 you should also check out Hard Candy.

Although none of the tracks stand out like a few of those on August and everything the whole thing is much more polished, and just about every track is very good, which i always find impressive. If not, just d/load the title track, and 'Black and Blue'. Suspect the latter will appeal at the least :D

Have you heard Colorblind off the Cruel Intentions soundtrack?

Sammie, I've had a love affair with the music of Counting Crows since their very first album. Mr Jones was the first song that made it big on the airwaves & first time I heard it, I was smitten. Funny that now I always skip that track on the cd & head straight for Omaha and Anna Begins (my alltime favourite Counting Crows song).

I have all their albums, including the VH1 / MTV double and I think of the lot August and Everything After and This Desert Life are my favourites (btw Shehz Colorblind is also on the This Desert Life disc - bloody excellent song, I also loved the song they did for the Clueless soundtrack, called The Ghost in You).

I don't know why exactly, but Hard Candy has not had the same impact on me as their other albums (sort of the same way Recovering the Sattelites didn't do much for me after August & Everything After, but the more I listen to that cd the more I like it) - I always skip that Big Yellow Taxi song, it annoys me & I was rather peeved that Adam included it on the disc.

I think Counting Crows have some of the best lyrics out there and I'd love to see them live one day (along with Pearl Jam, Radiohead and REM)

I really love August..., it's one of my favorite albums to listen to when I just want to chill out and relax. I think "Raining in Baltimore" is probably my favorite. Nothing they've done after that really does anything for me, though. Their later albums don't seem to have the genuine sadness about them that August... has.

Yeah, colorblind is excellent. (On another note, so is quite a lot of stuff on that soundtrack)

Maybe the reason i didnt just fall for August... and stop there is that i'm not actually that keen on the saddness aspect. I like some of the more uplifting stuff better, i think.

You are absolutely right...

When we have everything we could possibly need, the last thing would be another penguin.

Never have too many! :p

I'll just join the list of fans of Anna Begins-- its a great song. BTW Kaz, I saw Pearl Jam live a few months ago, but REM is one I'd LOVE to see. Unfortunately I'll never be able to see Alice in Chains...

RIP Layne Staley.
