Commiserations, DarthV. I've just spent a weekend putting up more shelves (badly!) to fit the books on.
Let me see - 8 shelf units, set out to give 13 book spaces, on top of the 5 book shelf units I've already got - and guess what..they're full already!
It does look tidier though...

Need sympathy from fellow book treasurers. I love my books, and try to keep them beautiful for as long as posssible.
My sister, on the other hand, has no such respect. Every book she borrows is returned looking as if it had been read 5 times not once. To make matters worse, she uses my bedroom as a library (she never spends a penny on bks herself)especially when i'm at University, and i am FORBIDDEN from COMPLAINING!! She has to replace one bk b4 taking another, and that's all.
If i even MENTION the fact that she dropped Terry Pratchett's 'Guards, guards!' in the bath, and left 'Reaper Man' in the garden when it rained, my mother (usually v. just!) simply trots out the same tired line:
"what's more important, a book or your sister's happieness?"
And you don't want to KNOW what happens if you say 'the book'!
Sam.

Oh, and, (Dennizm esp.) : she doesn't just fold the CORNER. MY sister folds HALF THE PAGE over diagonally. Sam.

I'd borrow some of her stuff and give it the same treatment... than say "what's more important, your stuff or your sister's happiness?"

A friend of mine folded the corner of the pages, in the books I gave him. So I told him, I'll NEVER give you books again if I find ONE folded corner.
Well, I did find once, but, generaly, he cut off the bad habit. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

As a student, when I didn't have any money, I almost never bought books besides the ones I needed for my studies. For the light reading stuff I went to libraries.
Now I often regret that I coudn't buy more books at that time because it is very difficult or sometimes impossible to get them now.
Sometimes I don't even remember the title or the author and it's a nice surprise when I buy a new book and realize "Hey, I've read this before."

I ADORE reading as much as anyone, but the appearance of my books doesn't matter to me, as long as I can read them. I take them with me lots of places and loan them out, so they aren't in great condition, but it is the words inside which are the real treasure.
