I'm new here and so I don't want to upset anyone unduly.
I've heard some hard-core fans can get very upset by terminology. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
What do we call our favourite literary genre?
Is it science fiction, s-f, or sci-fi?
Be seeing you.

Well...personally, I reckon you can call it whatever you like!
But, I have noticed that some people tend to take exception at the term Sci-Fi. I guess it's really just a question of semantics, or personal preference.
Welcome to our forum all the same! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

However you want to use it, doesn't matter, people say Sci Fi becasue it's shorter, not because they mean something else.

SPECULATIVE FICTION or SF which to me encompasses all Fantasy, Horror and Science Fiction.

Writers in general find the term Sci-Fi offensive, as it relates to Skiffy, and all refer to themselves as SF writers, Speculative Fiction, as stated above.

A bunch of politically correct nonsense of course.

Whoa deja vu. This topic is going in the Science Fiction forum.
Here is the link where the experts nut it out: http://www.sfwa.org/misc/skiffy2.htm
