Anybody know this book?

Ok, I am in the process of locating and purchasing every book I've ever read.. wishful thinking I'm sure, but it has been fun so far!

One I can remember reading about 15 years ago (roughly) but barely remember (don't recall the plot, the character names, the book title, or the author hah) is really giving me a hard time (can't imagine why!). See if this rings a bell for anybody..

The protagonist is a sea turtle who was made humanoid by a wizard. He gains the mind and agility of a human, yet retains some qualities of the turtle also (I believe he used his old shell as a shield?). -

His friend was also scooped up from the sea, and made humanoid. I don't remember what he was, but I assume a squid - as I recall, he has multiple arms which he puts to good use with various weapons..

They both become trained as warriors (for some reason)..

Unfortunately that is ALL I remember of the book - I'm sure it was probably horrible, since there are very few I've read and can't remember, but I want it just the same. Is this even remotely familiar to anybody? If so pleeaaaase help me with a title, author or even more info! Thanks!

DRW - (I do remember the cover art was similar to that of the Gor books)

I googled it but didn't come up with anything. It's hard to find a book without at least part of an author's name or a title. If people here don't know what it is, then it'll be really hard -- these are very knowledgeable people.

That's quite a goal you have -- getting a copy of everything you've ever read. How will you do this? Have you kept a list or are you trusting to memory?

Yeah, I did some searching by more conventional methods and came up with nothing.. given the wide range of reading done by the members here, I was hoping I could spark a memory in somebody.

I'm going by memory, which means it may take me awhile to recall a few, but for the most part it's not too hard. I (usually!) have an easy time remembering written works. The only ones that I've had trouble with are books that I didn't care for - if I enjoyed it (or even didn't mind it) I either remember enough to find what it was, or outright remember the title (although the Author's name escapes me sometimes).

There is something funny about this damn turtle book though - I could swear I liked it at the time, but I can barely remember the book. Although what I described SOUNDS like a YA or even childrens fantasy, the book definately had a more adult feel to it.. written something like the older Deathstalker novels.

So lost - DRW

Reminds me of the Spellsong series by Alan Foster, but, it's where a human goes to a world that has intelligent animals. The turtle in that book is a wizard.

IS there a villain named Shredder in there somewhere?

5 answers to the Ninja Turtle reference.

Lol. Yeah, I wondered how long before the Ninja Turtles came in.

No, it's not TMNT, or Foster. I am not having any luck with the conventional searches, because the only things brought up for fantasy novels are Discworld or Foster books.

I _THINK_ one of the protags name was Gort, but I could be wrong. Man, this is killing me :P.

Ok I have had zero luck in finding this book. Unfortunately I still do not have any more information than was already stated. Gonna refresh this thread for one last attempt before I go crazy trying to find this book. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated!

Desperately,

DRW

ps. Please help! My next option is to drive half way across the state to see if the library I borrowed this from still has it lying around! (Is it possible to have just a _touch_ of OCD? )

pps: I've researched the Gort angle and no longer think the name is related to the book in question. Unfortunately that limits my info even further!

Try looking on www.abebooks.com. They have a message board there. Something like 10,000 booksellers there. You might get lucky.
