Quick note

Hi all,

I just thought I'd mention that I'm likely to be scarcer on the forum than I have been. I just got a job as a Shellfish Biologist for a local Indian tribe here in Washington State and it's going to be a very challenging position. Consequently, I'm going to have to focus my energies over the next year on learning the ropes and getting to grips with the science. I'm pleased to finally have a job in my field and somewhat overawed by the scope of the position. It's going to be a massive learning curve.

So I apologise in advance for being less visible on the board for a time. I will check in periodically and hopefully not lose all sense of community with you all. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gifAnyways, just thought I'd broadcast a heads-up. I start next monday so wish me luck http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Have a good one all.
Cheers,
Craig Dolphin

Craig, best of luck and congratulations on the position.

Fret not, a new Terry Goodkind discussion will probably started when you next poke your head in! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Congrats on the job, Craig.

Make sure that when you HAVE got a spare moment you call in (or get reading on all those books/topics you know we'll be talking about!)

Here's one for starters (this'll really annoy you at work on Monday!) http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Shellfish in Sf/Fantasy (with apologies if I've get my genuses wrong!) http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/redface.gif

- Try Stephen Baxter's Manifold sequence - Time, Space & Origin!

Any others?

David Brin's Uplift series? Over to you!

Best wishes

Thanks all for the warm wishes http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif Funny thing about starting a job, you have to spend a lot of money of stuff you'll need while working! $100 for a pair of waders to look silly in http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

And yes, I'll pop in from time to time. If for no other reason than to remind Penumbra how bad a native english speaker can maul grammar! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif And to see if the TG debate has moved on at all.

Shellfish in fantasy eh? Wow. You know, I just finished CS Lewis's 'Out of the silent planet' trilogy and maybe there were some shellfish in Perelandra! If I get time, and I remember, I'll check it out. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

Cheers,
Craig
