Since alot of you guys are from oversea's (from my perspective) http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif i was wondering if you guys ever get the chance to see American Football and what your opinions are of the game? The reason i bring this up is that its right in the middle of the season and my Chicago Bears are doing great http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif Im just curious what people who arent really exposed to it as much as us Yanks think. Thanks guys http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

American football.....

*thinks*

WAIT! I have it. That's like rugby, only where the players are completely hidden from mortal view under acres of 'protective clothing', isn't it?

Well, I haven't seen much, but i HAVE seen rugby. And that rules.

Too slow.
I do not like the idea of the players getting a break from play for a minute (guess) after 5 seconds of play.
And do not get me started on having Seperate Offensive and Defensive teams, etc, etc.
I think there is actually 48 minutes of game time divided into 4 quarters.......but I would have no idea how much of that 48 minutes is actually the game being played.....

Compare that to games like Rugby, Rugby League, Football, Field Hockey, etc.
The games last from 70-90 minutes + with breaks only at half time or when some poor bastard gets injured.

But then again maybe if I was born and raised in America rather than Australia I would be singing a different tune.......

And to your question on my access to watching an NFL game.......NFL games are shown quite regularly on cable television (Foxtel) a few games a week during your season.

Nac, Honestly, I still do not understand Aussie Rules or why usually normal people watch it.

Hmm, what do I think about American Football? I actually shook hands with Jan Stenerud earlier this year, should be a familiar name if you're really into American Football, I think... (Hall of Fame)

To be honest with you I have to agree with Shehzad, not my kind of sport. Soccer makes much more sense to me, just sorry my team Rosenborg messed up everything in the Champions League this year http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gif.

I don't know what it is but few American sports seem to hold my intrest much. Baseball I find dull, american football is to stop start for it to get exciting and basketball is highly reptitve (although u do see some of the most amazing things in basketball they are few and far between).

Ice hockey however is amazing. Hard. Fast. Skill. Everything a sport should be.

However nothing beats Rugby. Ever. And I have to say to all the Brits out there. Leicester Rules. Oh and last weekend was nice as well. I really did not expect England to beat Australia http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

However if Baseketball became a real sport i'd be there http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif (a troy and matt parker?? film aa the creators of south park)

A minute break after 5 seconds of play? Hehe, the most you can have is 25 seconds to start the next play, most teams run the next play within 15 seconds. It must be a cultural thing because i cant stand to watch soccer, just a bunch of sweaty guys in short shorts and long socks kicking a ball around for an hour. Thants what i call boring. Give me a good football game anytime. Go Bears http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Not only is soccer the "beautiful game" and the most popular game in the world, it is also the game the rest of the world calls "football". After all there is significantly more contact between the "foot" and the "ball" than in American Football.

And what could beat the sight of Roberto Carlos' goal against France... or Bergkamp's goal against Argentina in WC98... or Owen's goal... or... or... or...

Go Arsenal!!! Its just too bad that Brazil (my favourite team) are struggling so badly and that Holland (my second favourites) haven't made the WC finals. I guess I'll have to support Portugal http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I guess its what you grow up watching. Soccer is just not all that popular where i live. Its rarely on TV, its hardly covered in the papers and the highschool i went to did not have a team. It is very popular with our hispanic population and is slowly gaining popularity elsewhere but it just doesnt have the coverage or exposure of other sports. Baseball use to be called the "national past-time" but the National Football League (American Football) has surpased it. I just love the game, i played it for 8 years until i blew my left knee out. It has tons of strategy and is very exciting in my opinion. Dont get me wrong, i know Soccer is the most popular sport in the world but i just cant get into it. I love to watch American Football and Hockey. I think if you are able to watch American Football you will see that it is very violent and full of strategy. I look foward to the season every year.
