Despite a bit of pushing from certain members there is to be no Erikson devoted forum. Because his books generate so many questions I thought we could have a topic for speculation and queries etc. So off we go, please remember to post spoiler warnings.

okay I'll start with a quick one then.
'How do warrens work and what's the different kinds and what do you have to do to draw on them'?

or if that one is a waste of time..

are any of the old guard really dead?

Warrens are other planes of existence or pocket dimensions that certain beings can draw power from. Gods, ascendants, and other beings live in the warrens.

There are dozens of warrens. The warren of Death, Light, Darkness, Shadow are just some of the many.

The older races, ie the Jaghut, T'lan Imass seem to be connected to just one warren, almost like that warren was created when the race came into being. Humans on the other hand seem to have access to many of the warrens. However, most human wizards can only access one warren. A few humans, like Quick Ben can access many warrens.

Most of those who were thought to be dead live - Urko as the Keeper in HoC and his brother as the captain of the ship Kalam used in DG. I don't think that any of them is dead. And I have sen speculation that Traveller is Dassem Ultor.

And I agree with ezchaos about warrens. For intance the Tellan warren has captured the time when Imass were not undead and lived in the tundra.
