Robert Rankin.

Problem is since Terry Pratchett came on steam some 15 years ago no one comes even close to being that funny.

Hubbard's "Mission Earth" series was pretty funny. A ten volume set. Mostly satire. A lot of the writing parralelled info available through the freedom of info act from our very own fbi that has not been widely publicized. Some "top dogs" were very upset that this series approximated their lives! As I recall the books had great graphics on the covers too. Hubbard took a lot of heat in his life for obvious reasons but he sure wrote a lot of good stuff. A little trivia: He & Heinlein were roommates at GWU in DC for a spell.

Lets get Pratt-chett into perspective... he started the Discworld series to take the p#ss out of sad people who write/read fantasy. He was lampooning guys!

He then found he was onto a good earner and started to take it seriously. Thus I have read only his first book, and will never read another...

If you want a good lampoon, try BORED of the Rings by... sh#t I forget... I'll get back to you... but it is based (of course) on Lord Of The Rings.

########SPOILER#######

'and Goodgulf stood before the asembled host and cried "If any one of you is not ready for this final battle, go now!, with my blessing" It is said the dust cloud took many years to dissapear' Arrowmint look at Goodgulf and said "You just had to say that, didn't you" (hehehe)

Yeah, Prachett might have been lampooning then, but no matter what his original motives, it's plain to see he's hooked now.

He's written twenty Discworld books, I think; something around that number.

"Colin the Librarian" by Rich Parsons & Tony Keaveny.
I own the '94 paperback from Michael O'Mara Books Ltd. which appeared in the UK, CAN & AUS. Dunno about any American version.

I'd add Simon Haynes, who just happens to be me. Whether you'd class my novel 'Hal Spacejock' as funny or not depends upon your taste in humour. I appreciated seeing the list, though. As far as SF goes, I thought Adams and Sheckley were about it.

Cheers,
Simon Haynes http://www.spacejock.com
