Does anyone here like metal music and if so what metal genres do you like/ hate and what are you favorite bands? Also, what do you think is the greatest metal song of all time?

My favorite metal genres are power, melodic black, melodic death, and glam.
Some of my favorite bands (hold on, this is one heckuva list!) are Black Sabbath (Dio era), Petra (early John Schlitt era), Dio, The Scorpions, Def Leppard (early days before they became infected by the nu metal disease), Vinny Vincent, Whitesnake, Firehouse, Lita Ford, Doro Pesch, Rainbow, Skid Row, Judas Priest, Europe, Twisted Sister, Stryper, TNT, Guns N' Roses, Quiet Riot, Great White, Cinderella, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Gamma Ray, Helloween, Edguy, Stratovarius, Manowar, Avantasia, In Flames, Bal-Sagoth, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Summoning, Battlelore, Amon Amath, Archenemy, Soilwork, and tons of others!
I absolutely hate nu-metal, however! To me it's absolute false crap, and an abomination to metal that the US media is forcing down our throats!

I think the greatest metal song of all time is "The Final Countdown" by Europe. Gods, that song rocks!! That keyboard solo alone could bring me out of a coma!

I grew up with Led Zeppelin, Cream, and the Who........but I also like lots of the bands you've mentioned. Lots of them are not known to me.
The fine distinctions between the various types of metal have eluded me.......for example, what is the difference between "melodic death" and melodic black"?

Do you like techno-metal, like Crystal Method?

Big fan of 80's glam. Motley Crue, Skid Row and early GnR are some of the more popular (at the time of course) bands I like. I also listen to some less well known bands from that period like Bulletboys, Dangerous Toys and Junkyard. I know a lot of glam is cheesy and, from a musical standpoint, simplistic, but hey, not everyone can be Mozart, right.

I'm a big fan of melodic progressive power metal. My favorites bands are: Rahpsody, Blind Guardian, Dream Theater, Ayreon, Symphony X, Demons & Wizards. I also like Therion, Lacrimosa, Front 242 and KMFDM.

..and the all time Classic Metal Band: IRON MAIDEN

Anyone remember Accept ?

Eldanuumea, to answer your question, no, I absolutely detest techno metal, I consider it false metal. Sorry if I sound too fanatical, but this is just the way I am. And you were wondering the difference between melodic black and melodic death, well melodic black metal usually has reptilian/hawk-like screechy/raspy vocals, while melodic death has more deep growly vocals, which a lot of metal fans refer to as the "cookie monster sound" :)
Both melodic black and melodic death have a heavy use of keyboards, organs, and eery choirs in the background, but mrlodic black metal tend to use them a lot more than melodic death. Melodic death uses more complex melodic guitar riffs than keyboards.
Personally, I like melodic black metal more than melodic death because, with the keyboards, organs, and choirs in the background, it has a much more dark, ominous, evil sound to it. Not that I'm an evil person, mind you, I'm just a goth freak :D

Godmage, yeah, I've heard some people lambast and criticize glam metal as cheesy, and frankly it ticks me off. I grew up with that stuff, man! I've loved it ever since I was a wee lad! Who cares what the people say! As Wolverine would say, "Screw Em!"
You mentioned Skid Row, who I happen to really like as well. Some of my favorite songs from them are "I Remember You", "Youth Gone Wild" and "18 and Life". I also like Motley Crue too. Yeah sure, they may look like girls, but the lead vocalist is awesome and the riffs are great! It's like an online friend of mine once said who is a drummer in a glam metal band "Just because I wear eyeliner doesn't mean I can't kick your arse!"
So yeah, I love glam metal. And in my opinion, no glam metal band can beat Europe! They're the best! You should try listening to them if you haven't already, Godmage. Their "Final Countdown" has to be the most awesome song I have ever heard, and that's in true metal history, not just in glam metal!

And Stormgard, how could I have forgotten to mention Iron Maiden in my list?!! They're one of the greatest metal bands in the world! In fact they're one of the bands who started the power metal movement, along with Dio, Judas Priest, and Helloween.
And yeah, I remember Accept. You got your balls to the wall, man!! Da-da-da-da-da-dum :D

I have no clue what 'type' of metal the bands I like fall into. Hell, half the time I don't even know what genre of music I'm listening to, what with all the subgenres etc these days. I figure if the song is good I'll listen to it. But staying with metal groups (or groups I think / used to think fall in the broader 'metal' genre) I'd say I like Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Cream, Faith No More, Jane's Addiction, Sepultura, Metallica, The Who, Led Zep..... I'm sure there are some more, but I don't know if they necessarily fall in this category.
