Warhammer novels in order?

What I like about Black Library is their tradition of publishing popular series in omnibus editions. These omnibus editions are often very handsome and often collect 3 novels in a book (700-800 pages). The format is trade paperback and they're good value for their money.

Recent examples are the Von Thulman novels by C.L. Werner and the Vampire Wars novels by Steven Savile.
Other recommended omnibus editions are the Felix & Gotrek novels (there are already 2 omnibuses, a third is forthcoming) and the Vampire Genevieve omnibus by Jack Yeovil.

Another omnibus I'm looking forward to are the Inquisition War novels by Ian Watson. I believe this omnibus will be released around easter next year.

For those readers who prefer a standard medeval flavor (albeit with the occasional musket or pistol), then I'd suggest the Gortrek & Felix books or the Witchhunter omnibus as a good place to start.

Warhammer is not quite the standard medieval setting, as it incorporates a lot of steampunk (steam tanks, zeppelins, flame cannons/throwers, muskets, pistols, cannons, volley guns etc.) and Renaissance elements.

In contrast, the more recent novels seem a lot more run of the mill and even juvenile. In particular, the Gaunt's ghosts series seems to be a very watered-down version of Drake's 'Hammer's Slammers' novels.

Just finished my second Gaunts Gost Omnibus and I don't see anything juvenile about it. Quality miltary scifi/fantasy imo.

Quick question. What/who is the Emperor? Is/was he human?

He was human before he was plugged into the Imperium's Throne, a device that has kept him alive (but immobile) for 10,000 years and allowes the Imperium to travel through warp space safely. More here (http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Emperor).

FWIW, I'm reading Salamander by Nick Kyme, which is set in the Warhammer 40K universe. So far, it is pretty good.

Adam, any thoughts from you on the Warhammer books?

I have read most of the Ghost's stories and I would agree that it is very well done scifi military series. I have a few more of the Warhammer omnibii but haven't read anything other than the Eisenhorn series which was still a good read but not nearly as good any of the stories that deal with the Gaunt's Ghost.

I've managed to be patient, so I'm waiting for the third Gaunt's Ghosts omnibus to come out!
I've mainly read the 40k stuff, and I really enjoyed the Eisenhorn omnibus (especially the first book in the trilogy, which I think was Xenos). The two Horus Heresy books I have read so far have been good as well.

Anyone know whether the Time Of Legends books are any good? As far as I know, they're releasing them as three or four trilogies, and I just wondered whether they could be recommended!
