The things they carried by Tom O'Brien
A very good book I suggest all to read who have been in the Armed services. I also suggest it to all those who want to know what it is like in the Armed services.
The Lexus and The Olive Tree by Thomas L. Freidman
Explains current world economics well
The complete works of Emily Dickinson.

Slowly reading Peter Moore's "Vroom with a View." Never really been into travel fiction, but I'm enjoying the author's account of his recent journey from Milan to Rome on his '61 Vespa. Recommended.

Finished:
Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield. Great, great book. Really impressed with the battle scenes.
I read that a few years ago, and I agree. Gread read.
I'll toss in my most recent read and a new favorite; The Black Thorn and the White, by Michael Faber. I can't remember the last time I was this drawn into a novel. I absolutely could not put that book down.

Just started reading Stephen Ambrose's CITIZEN SOLDIERS. I also bought his Band of Brothers and D-Day.

Do you think you mean The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber ? Set in Victorian England about a prostitute ? I couldn't find The Black Thorn and the White on Amazon.

That's interesting, substituting Black Thorn for Crimson Petal. Maybe Msylvia has just come up with a better title. :) I loved that book too.

Oops. You're right. I don't know why I keep thinking Black Thorn for some reason.

Started Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susannah Clarke. It's fantasy, the plot involves a rebirth of magic in England during the Napoleonic Wars.
Clarke is a bit long-winded, which makes the book a lazy, relaxing read, rather than intense and urgent, but that's okay. It's a big book, complete with footnotes, and sometimes the footnotes are more interesting than the story. :)

Am now reading War and Peace for the first time (Tolstoy). This is a bit ironic as Hurricane Ivan (Russian name) is now headed straight for me.
