Need Research Help - political topic

I'm having problem with a certain aspect of my research and thought perhaps you all could help. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Can anybody point me to web sites or other resources that explain the political system in the UK? For instance, I need to know what the major political parties are, when they came about, etc. - a short political history of sorts. My overall topic is the viability of multiple political parties in the current US two party system. Since the UK has more than two major parties coexhisiting, they are one of my examples of a place where multiple parties are in place and perhaps even succesful.

I don't know if its because I am the US or what, but I am having a really hard time finding UK sites. I don't want to pass off my research on others because I actually enjoy doing it and you all don't need to spend much time on it. Perhaps some of you could suggest search engines that are specific to the UK that I could use?

The UK has just about everything on the web. I love their history and archaeology sites.

Go to Google.com adavanced search and start looking for House of Lords, House of Commons, etc. London Times site is a good place to start as well.
http://www.google.com is your friend.

Well, I've just finished something similar (voting system in France and Germany), and I had good use of www.ipu.org (http://www.ipu.org) (Inter Parlamentary Union, or something), as well as a book: Hauge, Rod, Harrop, M- Breslin, S.:Comparative Government and Politics. An introduction
