I don't mean to start a fight here, but I get kind of disgusted when people call books "throwaway" I honestly don't understand why someone would want to throw a book in the trash, if you don't like it, why not sell it to a used bookstore, that certainly would be more productive than burning it. I've read a few books that I didn't like, but I never, ever threw them in the trash, I sold them to a used bookstore. If I threw them away, I felt like I was robbing/preventing somebody else out there from possibly getting a good read out of the book I didn't like. I felt it would be selfish and wasteful to throw it away. Sorry if I sound preachy and fanatical on this subject, but that's just the way I feel.
You seem to be labouring under a misapprehension. I didn't use the word 'throwaway' in any literal sense. I meant it more in the sense that the book was light and brief, or pulpy. As it happens, I've never thrown a book away in my entire life and I don't think I ever will either. I don't like the idea of throwing a book into the bin any more than you do by the sound of it.

Yes, but pulpy can also be good though, case in point Robert E. Howard's works! ;)

forgot to mention one of the other books I read over Christmas. It it still in hardcover, but it looked so cute that I checked it out from the Library. It is called Enslaved by Ducks by Bob Tarte. It is a non-fiction account of a man who is not a pet owner, and he marries a woman who is. They move out of the city and a small menagerie of animals slowly moves in. Mostly bids, and bunnies. It was charming and very funny. I read it because, besides ducks and outdoor birds he also ended up with parrots. I used to own two and love to read stories about newbies trying to live with them.
I am now still reading Viriconium (think that has all the 'i's?) and have just gotten into the 2nd chapter of Storm of Wings - and am finding it a bit slow: into my 2nd chapter of description, with very little actually happening - but I will read on.
I was also bad in that I started another book. I just got my latest haul from the UK, and on my way home from the bookstore stopped for dinner and had nothing to read. :D So I am now also reading The Court of the Midnight King by Freda Warrington. It is a retelling of Richard III entwined with a magical female earth deity. So far so good. The other book I just got from the UK was Maul by Tricia Sullivan, and it looks very sharp and nasty, and may be next.

Nothing wrong with 'pulp.' Michael Moorcocks various series spring to mind as creative, well written enjoyable works of a pulpy nature.
