I have been reading thru this forum and have found no refrence to one of my favorite fantasy authors RA Salvatore. I know that the whole Dark Elf thing has turned alot of people of to him, But he shines in the Demon Wars Saga. I suggest that you pick up some of his works and read them. Any comments on my line of thinking or support?

I've only read the Dark Elf trilogy. I enjoyed it but have felt no urge to buy his other books.:(

Cymric, a welcome from me first.

But: how far have you read through the forum?
I am just asking because there are about four threads this year that go on about Salvatore or the Forgotten Realms books.
Just use the Search function and you will definitely find reference to him . . .

In those threads you will find what I am thinking about Salvatore and what I have read by him. ;)

I liked the Dark Elf trilogy but I've been unimpressed by his other stuff. All the other Dark Elf and Icewind Dale stuff seemed like standard Forgotten Realms stuff, readable but ungripping, but the Cleric Quintet got so awful I thought he should be birched for it.

I like the Icewind Dale trilogy way better than the Dark Elf trilogy. Of course it probably been 12-13 years since I've read them, but Drizzt was a fav character at the time.

I remember hating the first two books in the Dark Elf trilogy. When he finally got outside in book 3, then it got good.

Haven't read any of his other books since then. I hear he's still writing Drizzt's books. True?

I've read bits and pieces of his work - some of the Demon Wars (I like Elbryan), his Star Wars books and the Crimson Shadow books (I really liked those)

I like the dark elf stuff that Salvatore has written as well as the Cleric Quantet which I enjoyed. I have a Thousand Orcs sitting in my to read pile too :)

Salvatore's books were one of the first books I ever read. when I was younger, they were my favourite books. I still preciate them.

It's standard fantasy, but it's excellent standard fantasy. Bob himself is all the time telling young people to read books, and with his books they most probably will.

I recently started to read the Demonwars -series. I think they are on the same line with Drizzt books. Slightly better at sometimes, but hey... Can anyone beat Drizzt in Anything.

Does anyone know how many books is in the demonwars?

...Yeah... no more post virginity

Salvatore's Dark Elf stuff were some of the first fantasy books I read as well. If I started reading these books today, I probably wouldn't make it past the first book. Problem is, I started reading them 10 years ago and now I'm invested in the story. This series is still a good place for young readers to start though.
