Spin Off Stories

One of my favourite fantasy series has always been the Empire Trilogy by Raymond E Fiest and Janny Wurts. This series is based on the Tsurani world first written about in his Riftwar series of books but is written in parallel with the Riftwar story line just with a different perspective and only occasionally has “cameo” rolls from characters in the original series. I was re-reading this recently and it got me thinking of other stories that could form spin off books for the Authors which would help them produce books without novel ideas and also give us a better all round view of the world that the stories are based in. I know that Fiest has done other spin off stories including his recent collaborations, as have D&L Eddings and David Gemmells Drenai series are just a collection of stories from the same world (he even links the John Shannow series and Lion of Macedon books through the Sipstrassi stones and casual referrals to other worlds and Nadir shaman). I am sure that there are others but are there any spin off books/series that you would like authors to produce that you think that you’d enjoy?

One that comes to mind is from the Wheel Of Time. I know that the series isn’t finished (and for those cynics out there might never be finished), but when it is I think the story of Tam Al’Thor would produce at least one more book.

Thomas (form the Riftwar) is another character that I would like to here more about. I think that there could be several books about him, as well as the history of the Elven races from Fiest’s tales.

I recently read one of the 2 (so far...) short stories that fills in some of the history behind A Song of Ice and Fire. I think there's a lot of scope for more, there - and I for one would love to read them.

I agree about the Empire Trilogy... It was phenominal. I also, by the way think a stand alone about Tam al'Thor would be fun. He is a great secondary character who seems to have a lot of history.
I would like to see the story of the Giants from the Thomas Covanent books immortalized in print "The story of the unhomed", or the story of the Sandgorgons and their imprisonment...
Good topic, I can't think of more right now, but I bet there are a lot of interesting spin off ideas folks could come up with.

Empire is a classic.

More of Tomas is probably a dream for every Feist fan.
