I'm just a bit curious as to what type of music fantasy fans enjoy. I almost always listen to music while I read(and in just about everything else I do that doesn't risk breaking my player) so music actually plays a role in literature for me. I enjoy music of al types personally, from jazz to classical to rock to experimental. I find that practically every genre of music has something great to offer.
But I was just curious as to what other fans may enjoy. Who knows, I might find some new groups by people's suggestions.

Funnily enough, I actually like heavy metal, the classic stuff, not so much of the modern-day thrash stuff. But, there's nothing better than settling down with Led Zep, Sabbath, or even Floyd on the CD and a good thick book. Very relaxing...And yes, even at 42 I still love metal! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

That's cool erebus. I agree with you on the classics. Floyd definitely has it's good stuff, though I'm not too big on their earlier albums. I mainly listen to the stuff when roger waters sort of took over.
and sabbath is definitely a good one(Though I can't say that I could really read to it.) Zeppelin, at times, is genious, but I don't like all of their music. Some of it just doesn't fit my tastes.
But I have found that by listening to music, you can actually develop a sort of relationship between the music you listen too while reading a story.
For instance, whenever I hear a certain mercury rev album, I always think of the golden compass, because that was the album I was really into while I was reading it.
I just wondered if it were the same for anyone else. (I'm a bit of a music head.)

Lynard Skynard, Led Zep, Rush, Texas (and I don't mean the current band with that name), Yes. I also like some of the heavier stuff frm Iron Maiden and Saxon.

Just as a matter of interest, Led Zep's great fourth album (the one with Stairway... on it) was apparently iinspired to some degree by LOTR.

Dennizm, I agree about RUSH too. I'd forgotten about them. Great band; great vocals, although they don't have such a big following over here, My favourite of theirs has to be Moving Pictures, I think!

What other types of music do you like? Or is it mostly just metal. Not that there's anything wrong with that.Just curious.

Mostly metal or heavy rock, I guess. Bands like Matchbox 20, Creed, Boston, Counting Crows also get a look in. Aussie bands like The Angels, Midnight Oil, killing Heidi, if you've heard any of these?

The list is long and varied, but these are a few of the favs! I guess anything with a hard edge gets a look in!

It's quite a long list actually? Well, here are at least some of my favourites: Metallica, Extreme, Live, Nirvana, Dave Matthews Band, Jewel, Lene Marlin (norwegian), Tracy Chapman...

I don't know any of you old(well, older than me) guys are into playstation games, but the soundtrack on Final Fantasy 7 totally blew my mind. It's basically symphony pieces and such.
Also, for some reason i've got an obsession with the classic "In the hall of the mountain King" by Grieg. I've had that song in me head for the last 3 years.
I like alot of other music but most of it isn't fantasy based.

The ff7 soundtrack was good, though if you can find the orchestrated version of ff6 its actually a lot better(the best score that nobuo ueamtasu ever composed). Theres also a ff7 reunion disc that had the full orchestrated songs from the ff7 theme and ending(both amazing).

Im not all that into metal myself, though I dig bits and pieces of it. I like midnight oil though. Erebus, as a suggestion, you might should try some of the albums from a chicago group called seam. Its considered indie rock(because of it's label) but it would probably fit in with your tastes.
I have to agree with nirvana as well. The last great pop group(and I consider it pop becuase of it's popularity and exposure at the time.)
