Just wondering how many of you think that Martin will combine the two major plots, they being the Civil War and the Others.
Do ya tink Martin will have Dany win the war and then with a united Westoes(sp?) face the Others or to ya tink they will remain seperate plots ie. Dany killing everyone in the South while Jon and Bran defeat the Others.

So the question is whether Dany will fight Others? The plot as it stands right now sort of begs it. Dragons breathe fire, and Westeros has enemies of pure cold. Dany wants to conquer Westeros, but it needs a savior. People are already naming Jon and Dany's future children. While I don't think that the many threads of plot will converge into One Big Battle Against the Others, there's some hefty foreshadowing on Dany meeting Others.

there's some hefty foreshadowing on Dany meeting Others. Apart from Dragons breathing fire what foreshadowing is there?

Also Stannis is already in the North and has the whole Rallor(sp?) thing going for him which if my memory is correct is a firey god or something so perhaps that is the fire to the Others ice.

Stannis isnt the Lord of Light, so he cant hold off the others for long, Dany will need to come and help out.

Yeah, but R'Hllor is pretty dubious, and a lot of signs are pointing to Stannis being a false messiah. I have a feeling that R'Hllor will ultimately come to be as much trouble as the Others. Plus, I can't see that in a series called A Song of Ice and Fire, that the only real evil in the world is Ice, without a Fiery buddy-in-crime.

Seperate plots I think. I like them better that way. Plus who ever gets the throne might have to move to the North or not - depends on how smart Jon is

I think he will combine the plots together. It works better that way. The wall will fall. It has to, and the Others will storm Westeros. And enter the scene with Dany and her Dragons and the whole of Westeros will become a warzone. Will it force the Lannisters and Starks to work together, against an avalanche of Undead? Combine the two plots together and you can come up with some interesting ideas...

I THINK there was some foreshadowing of Dany fighting/meeting the Others... when she was in the Warlock's mansion, didn't she have a vision of a great wall of Ice, and then a crack in the wall from where a stream of blue roses started pouring? I think that somehow ties in to Jon as well...

Yup, that was in there, so did we just agree that the wall will fall?

If it does, I dont think the Starks will fight alongside the Lannisters, simply because of the 4 left theres:

Bran: God knows where he is up in the Land of Always Winter

Sansa: About to get forced to marry Littlefinger, stuck in a supa high castle

Rickon: About 4 years old

Arya: Somewhere with the faceless men

So no Stark will be there to help, maybe Bran, but maybe not.

No stark at the moment certainly, however the wall might not fall untill the fifth book. By the end of fourth book it is quite probable that Sansa will be highly skilled in the game of thrones. With a strong queen leading, the Starks could become a force again. Of course this is all speculation :)

But the title of the fourth book might suggest the fall of the wall. 'A feast for crows' certainly suggests alot of people dying, also the word crow suggests the wall. George R R Martin might have called the next book 'A feast for ravens', that would obviously suggest the wall but Martin is more subtle than that and it doesn't have the same ring to it.

If that is the case then no doubt the wall will fall at the end of the book so we're left sceaming down at our books wondering how many years we will have to wait to read the next installment ;)
