the whole thing just reached a truly different scale in Blade of Tyshalle when he realized that everything he worked for in the first book was a waste of time. Because he's really Caine. The truth of him is Caine, and the nice guy Hari was the lie, and that was okay. It was, in fact, quite empowering. Imagine if the great transcendance in your life was when you realized that the beautiful true steel in your soul was the murderous killer you'd tried so hard for so long to suppress?
Kind of reminds me of that Unforgiven movie actually.
