Has anyone here read her work?
She seems to have done a shapeshifter trilogy and a trader trilogy, and a book called 'In the company of others'

What type of book does she write- military? characters?
And how does she compare with autors such as Bujold and Elizabeth Moon?

I read the first one in her work from that Shapeshifter trilogy and I found it to be reasonably well done, but not really remarkably brilliant. I haven't heard of the other two you mentioned, so I can't comment on that.

I have read the first two books of her "Trade Pact Universe" Trilogy. I found them both entertaining. She does not write military type stories. At least the TPU series isn't that way. They are more character driven novels.

I can't compare her to Bujold or Moon either, since I have not read any of their material.

I have read all three of her Tradepact Universe books, and have collected her three Shapshifter books. I really like her. She is a lighter and easier to read CJ Cherryh, but somewhat similar.

She does great characters, has a light humorus touch and can tell a good story. Her SF is of the escapist/adventure kind, rather than the hard science, big ideas kind. She is a quick read that leaves you feeling good, without feeling like you were on an empty sugar high. Hope that helps.

In terms of Moon: I have only read one of hers (first book) - she is lighter and more humorus than Moon. She is prbably not a good at humor as Bujold, but her stuff does have a space opera-ish feel to it.

amazon keep recommending her to me, but I never get round to getting a copy of her books.

Which is the first in the trade pact books? As I may have to order it now, seeing as it sounds just the ticket to get me out of my sci -fi/fantasy rut.

Don't think she will surpass LMB, but I've read all her books now and need to fill the gap! Thanks for the recommendation!

There's something very Philip K. Dick about that.

Huh? I meant that they do the personal, 'based on what you have bought, we recommend this'. But I must admit, I thought they looked too much like Elizabeth Moon's stuff which I never really liked.

No offence Leiali, it's just that I've always been struck by the irony of a machine (Amazon effectively) recommending books to humans. That really is Philip K. Dick territory.

I thought it was 1984/Fahrenheit 451 territory myself- fluffy bunny

A Thousand Words For Stranger is the first book in the series, it is also her first book.

Ties of Power is the second book

To Trade the Stars is the last
