Who has read these historical fiction books by Cornwell? I understand most or all of them are set in Napoleonistic times and the first one, Sharpe's tiger, in India. What makes these books so good? Is it the historical accuracy he's so renowned for?

Met the man actually. Seems very nice. The Sharpe Historical Society exist just up the road from Hobbit Towers, evidently, and despite living in the US these days he regularly visits them. The Sharpe series is interesting in that the book series was started before the TV series (starring Sean Bean, he of Boromir fame) but the TV series was so lucrative that the stories changed so that TV viewers could read them and wouldn't feel alienated.
He does base each story on a real event, and travels around these days to visit the place before writing. Not usually my cup of tea, though I like his book on Stonehenge and the Arthur King of Britain series he's done. Harlequin is good too. Recommended by my father in law as fairly solid military novels.

Yet another book and series I have been off and on considering. I must have picked them up at the bookstores at least a dozen times. They are worth it though?

Cornwell's Sharpe books are well worth a read.
But a note the Indian adventures have been written recently.
The first Sharpe book was I believe "Sharpe's Eagle" starting Richard Sharpe's adventures in Spain in 1809.
I have studied Wellington's career and Cornwell does fit histroy very well into "Sharpe's" adventures.
Sharpe's Waterloo is my favourite, though anything written fact or fiction about that battle tends to find its way into my grubby hot little hands.

yeah, I meant that Sharpe's tiger and Sharpe's triumph are the first chronologically, not in terms of publishing http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
Hobbit, I didn't know there's a tv show. I hope someone imports it here, I'd love to see it, especially with Bean in it. I've always thought Bean would have made a decent Aragorn as well http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
