I used to think that I was quite skilled at chess, until I tried playing with my husband--I have not been able to beat him, not even once. Needless to say we don't play much anymore, the outcome is too predictable. :(

But have any of you beaten the master himself, the Spy Master in the Empire Trilogy, from the House Minwanabi (name starts with C--can't exactly remember). The best chess player on Kelewan.

I used to play a lot of chess, but after getting into computers I found other strategy games fired my imagination far more.
Chess is still a damn good game though.
I went to the Yahoo chess rooms once or twice, but unfortunately it seemed to have degenerated into a playground for cybering freaks and ego-maniacs.

I only know the basics of playing chess. I really would like to learn more...but time is just one of the things that seems to just not be around in abundance. :( I used to enjoy playing, on purpose, for stalemates... friends used to love me for that ;)

I'm not amatuer, but I'm not vetern either. I'm probably average. I see about 3 to 5 moves ahead, although I don't know the names of any of the moves.

For the past eight years I have played on man, and in over three hundred games I have only won twice. I often come close to winning but I get overconfident and make a fatal error that gives him the edge he needs to turn my victory into at least a stalemate.

Used to do equally well against the crowd who went to Oxford/Cambridge Universities - but the two best players I ever faced were not at all at that level academically. They were both were bloody good and very hard to beat, but have given up on it. Lack of challenge, I guess.

I'm not to bad. I did get over confident playing my flatmate. A 5'5 Asian with an MR2 and a penchent for Gangsta Rap. No problem I thought. Turns out his cousin is a bloody grandmaster and taught him to play when he was a kid. I have managed to beat him a couple of times though.

I enjoy playing occasionally, but I don't know how good (or bad) I am as I don't know many other people who play.
My problem is my impatient temperament - not a good thing in a chess player. I get to the stage when I just say what the hell, and play a rash move :). Also, I sometimes get so involved in planning 5 moves ahead and setting up a strategy that I miss the more immediate threats and end up losing my queen...
