This is a book by German writer and cartoonist Walter Moers. I think it is taken from a German kinds show.
Its a great book, a true work of fantasy with some great art work. I would recomend it to anyone and just wondering if anyone else has read it or any other Moers books as I know he has one about a Knight out at the moment.

Hey, just recently I found out that it was translated - which is cool. Always happy to see a German author translated and liked by the English speaking readers. :)
And yes, Käpt'n Blaubär is a character from a kid tv show . . .
Walter Moers has some more such novels out - but here he is also known well for his 'Little Asshole' cartoons (those are 'cult', simple as that) and for the satire comic about 'Adolf' . . .
I personally have not read the 13 1/2 lives yet, I am waiting for the YA mass market edition - because I get that for free. ;)
A friend of mine has read it and he loved it - he even owns both hardcover and paperback edition.

Just to let you know:
Another "Zamonia"-book of Walter Moers has been translated. It's simply called "Rumo" and features the adventures of the wolpertinger Rumo in Overworld and Netherworld.
I highly recommend this book to all who liked Captain Blue Bear (and to everybody else as well)

The other day I finished reading The 13 1/2 lives of Captain Blue Bear. I thought it was a really fun read. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a break from traditional fantasy. :)

Two or three days ago I saw "The city of the dreaming books" in a local bookstore (in fact it is a Spanish translation titled "La ciudad de los libros soñadores"). I was very intrigued by the title (anything about a book city has to be cool, han's it? ;) ) and I took a look. The first impression was excellnet and since then I'm restraining myself from buying it (it is an expensive hardcover edition, but it is so nice!). Has anyone read it?
