SECOND NATURE (Rush)
A memo to a higher office
Open letter to the powers that be
To a God, a king, a head of state
A captain of industry
To the movers and the shakers ‹
Can't everybody see?
It ought to be second nature ‹
I mean the places where we live
Let's talk about this sensibly ‹
We're not insensitive
I know that progress has no patience ‹
But somethings got to give
I know you're diffrent ‹
You know I'm the same
We're both too busy
To be taking the blame
I'd like some changes,
But you don't have the time
We can't go on thinking
It's a victimless crime
No one is blameless,
But we're all without shame
We fight the fire ‹
While we're
Feeding the flames
Folks have got to make choices ‹
And choices got to have voices
Folks are basically decent
Conventional Wisdom would say
Well, we read about
The exceptions
In the papers every day
It ought to be second nature
At least that's what I feel
"Now lay me down in dreamland" ‹
I know perfect's not for real
I thought we might get closer ‹
Now I'm ready to make a deal
Today is different,
And tomorrow the same
It's hard to take the world the way that it came
Too many rapids
Keep us sweeping along
Too many captains
Keep on steering us wrong
It's hard to take the heat ‹
It's hard to lay blame
We fight the fire ‹
While we're
Feeding the flames

Coming Back to Life--Pink Floyd
Where were you when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by from my window watching
Where were you when I was hurt and I was helpless
Because the things you say and the things you do surround me
While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words
Dying to believe in what you heard
I was staring straight into the shining sun
Lost in thought and lost in time
While the seeds of life and the seeds of change were planted
Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While I pondered on this dangerous but irresistible pasttime
I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For killing the past and coming back to life
I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the waiting had begun
And headed straight . . . into the shining sun

Down in a Hole--Alice in Chains
Bury me softly in this womb
I give this part of me for you
Sand rains down and here I sit
Holding rare flowers
In a tomb...in bloom
Down in a hole and I don't know if I can be saved
See my heart I decorate it like a grave
You don't understand who they
Thought I was supposed to be
Look at me now a man
Who won't let himself be
Down in a hole, losin' my soul
Down in a hole, losin' control
I'd like to fly,
But my wings have been so denied
Down in a hole and they've put all
The stones in their place
I've eaten the sun so my tongue
Has been burned of the taste
I have been guilty
Of kicking myself in the teeth
I will speak no more
of my feelings beneath
Oh I want to be inside of you
Down in a hole, losin' my soul
Down in a hole, feelin' so small
Down in a hole, losin' my soul
Down in a hole, out of control
I'd like to fly but my
Wings have been so denied
I might have been carried away a bit...

HOBBIT MOTHERF***ERS (TURBONEGER)
Ethnic hair styles
Sloppy male hippies
Retro punks
People with thick glasses
Glorifying serial killers
Hobbit motherf***ers
No guts
No glory
No riot
ARGH
YAGH
I've had enough
My generation sucks
AUCK
YAGH
I agree
My generation sucks
Cyber idiots with pierced scrotums
Copulating
With animals
In cars
Parked ouside the rave party
Not enough war
Not enough famine
Not enough suffering
Not enough natural selection
ARGH
YAGH
That's what I say
My generation sucks
AUCK
YAGH
I've had enough
My generation suck

When You Come
Performed by Crowded House, written by the master, Neil Finn"
When you come across the sea
Me like a beacon guiding you to safety
The sooner the better now
And when you come the hills
Will breathe like a baby
Pulled up heaving from the bottom of the ocean
The sooner the better now
When you come to cover me with your kisses
Fresh like a daisy chained up in a lion's den
I'll know you by the thunderclap
Pouring like a rain of blood to my emotions
And that is why
I stumble to my knees
And why underneath the heavens
With the stars burning and exploding
I know I could never let you down
When you come like an iceberg float in darkness
Smashing my hull send me to the bottom of the sea
I should know you better now
When you come your majesty to entrap me
Prince of light receding
The sooner the better now
And when you come to cover me
With your kisses hard like armour
The sooner the better now
I'll know you by the thunderclap
Pouring like a rain of blood to my emotions
And that is why
I stumble to my knees
And why underneath the heavens
With the stars burning and exploding
I know I could never let you down
She came out of the water
Into my horizon
Like a cumulo nimbus
Coming in from a distance
Burning and exploding
Burning and exploding
Like a slow volcano
When you come
Cover the ground with ashes
When you come

Just one verse:
And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun.
(Time, Pink Floyd)
That's why I stopped talking about writing and started doing it...

Maybe it's the books I read, but this song's lyrics just cry out to me everytime I hear them.
BRAVADO
Neil Peart - RUSH
If we burn our wings
Flying too close to the sun
If the moment of glory
Is over before it's begun
If the dream is won
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost
When the dust has cleared
And victory denied
A summit too lofty
River a little too wide
If we keep our pride
Though paradise is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost
And if the music stops
There's only the sound of the rain
All the hope and glory,
All the sacrifice in vain
And if love remains
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost

Another Rush fan??
I know I like the following because of the Fantasy genre... it is by Yes
Wonderous Stories
Anderson
I awoke this morning
Love laid me down by the river
Drifting I turned on up stream
Bound for my forgiver
In the giving of my eyes to see your face
Sound did silence me
Leaving no trace
I beg to leave, to hear your wonderous stories
Beg to hear your wonderous stories 'LA AHA'
He spoke of lands not far
Nor lands they were in his mind
Of fusion captured high
Where reason captured his time
In no time at all he took me to the gate
In haste I quickly
Checked the time
If I was late
I had to leave, to hear your wonderous stories
Had to hear your wonderous stories 'LA AHA, LA AHA'
Hearing
Hearing hearing your wonderous stories
Hearing your wonderous stories
It is no lie I see deeply into the future
Imagine everything
You're close
And were you there
To stand so cautiously at first
And then so high
As he spoke my spirit climbed into the sky
I bid it to return
To hear your wonderous stories
Return to hear your wonderous stories
Return to hear your wonderous stories
LA AH LA AH AH AH
Hearing
Hearing
Hearing
Hearing
Hearing

I never did get into Yes that much. I was a metalhead back in the 80's. I started to play guitar in high school and got turned onto Rush. For reading fantasy, it's pretty much the best stuff to listen to. Metallica's LOAD seems to match up with The Wheel of Time for some odd reason. Then again so does Alice in Chains.

Easy one:
THIS IS THE MOMENT "Jekyll & Hyde"
This is the moment, this is the day
When I send all my doubts and demons on their way
Every endeavor I have made ever,
Is coming into play, is here and now today.
This is the moment, this is the time
When the momentum and the moment are in rhyme
Give me this moment, this precious chance
I'll gather up my past, and make some sense at last.
This is the moment when all I've done
All of the dreaming, scheming and screaming become one!
This is the day, see it sparkle and shine
When all I've lived for becomes mine. For all these years, I faced the world alone
And now the time has come to prove to them I made it on my own.
This is the moment, my final test
Destiny beckoned, I never reckoned ^second best
I won't look down, I must not fall
This is the moment, the sweetest moment of them all This is the moment, damn all the odds
This day or never, I'll sit forever with the gods!
When I look back, I will always recall
Moment for moment, this was the moment
The greatest moment of them all!
