I've started to get a lot of eye strain lately and I've started to look for a better lightbulb. What are you folks using ? Right now I use 52W Soft White energy savers...but I find there is much much too much yellow.
Has anyone tried the new GE Reveal bulbs? I think they advertise them on TV as being less yellow. I htink I'll pick up a 4 pack of the 60W bulbs after work and see how they work.

Yeah they are! Last whale I killed gave me a heck of a time. Big white nasty one. Chased the damn thing half way across the world. When I finally caught up with it I tried to harpoon the beast but my leg caught up in the rope and I ended up wrapped around the friggin creature. Drug me around the ocean for a few months fore I managed to get free and swim to shore. Luckily Gloria Estefan was there in her yacht to bail me outta the water!

Is it only on the computer you are getting eye strain?
A good way to sort this is to diffuse the light source... I have an anglepoise lamp on my computer table... but it is directed at the ceiling... I am only getting reflected light on my comp desk... and it is enough to work with...
Warning... do NOT try this this if you have a mirrored ceiling!!! I tried it in the bedroom, and it nearly blinded me! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I get a little bit of eye strain from reading once in a while... I just picked up a 4pack of those GE bulbs and I'll see if they help.
As for my computer use, I'm a little bit spoiled. Both at home and at work I have Dell P991 19" FD Trinitron monitors http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif I don't think I've ever had any problems with eyestrain.
I started using some diffuse lightning on my computer after getting a touch of motion sickness from playing games. When you have a fast machine and have very high framerates in a game, your brain can be tricked into thinking you are moving, but your inner ear says you aren't...the conflict can make you a little queazy. Solutions for that are either use a smaller monitor (as if!), move farther away so it takes up less of your field of vision, or have some backlightning to help. I guess that's what I get for having a high-end gaming machine http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

I've got these starwar figures that glow in the dark(droids, ships and stars, even laser blasts between the ships) all over my computer room wall. When I get eye strain I just turn out the lights and stare at the glowing battle!

I have recessed can lights in the ceiling, recomended 60 watt max. I have replaced them with 300 watt Flood Lights. Now that Lights things up, but I smell this funny smell like something is burning... Oh my fire! gotta go...

No clue what we use, but we have bulbs that've lasted for three years all over the house. Gotta love these new energy saving lightbulbs that not only burn brighter but also last longer.

DarthV, have you still got this eye strain ?
Better lighting is good (I couldn't say it better myself) but try to relax your eyes a litlle bit from time to time : just shut your eyes and put your hand palms over them, and now relax for a few minutes : your eyes will feel much better.
